I always enjoy seeing the Messianic Jewish perspective on the Trinity in the Scriptures (i.e., the Old Testament).
Logically speaking, one could argue that if the Trinity isn't present in the Old Testament conception of God, then the God of the Old Testament isn't the same as the God of the New Testament. This would be a bit of a problem since that Jewish fellow Jesus, and the New Testament writers who were all but one Jewish, insisted that the Christian God is the Jewish God.
That being said, I'm skeptical that many of them would have been comfortable hearing the typical presentation of the Trinity from a typical modern pulpit. Misunderstanding the Philonic language used in the 325 Nicene Creed has turned the Trinity into Tritheism in far too many modern churches. Consequently, I usually cringe when I see the word "Trinity", fearing what sort of mad concoction of silliness is about to follow. I didn't cringe at your discussion. It was awesome.
Great article. This, more than anything else I have read here, moved me. I forget how much is in scripture that I can read past. Also the hym you ended with is so much better to read here then when you sing it during sermons.
I think Isaiah is my favorite book of the OT. Thank you for all your insights. They help us when questioned.
Great book for sure Bonnye.
Pastor Stuart, thanks for your
Insight and sharing it with us.
Love you dear brother!
